Meet Ozzie

Ozzie is a four year old Giraffe who lives in the Lion Ranch Habitat in Las Vegas. Ozzie is unique for two reasons: 1) He is the first and only Giraffe in the State of Nevada 2) He paints.

You can visit Ozzie by buying a general admission ticket to the Lion Ranch Habitat ($25 for an adult ticket, $10 for a child ticket. Discounts available for Seniors, Families, Locals, Fire, and Police).

The Lion Habitat Ranch is located near the M Resort Spa and Casino, about 20 minutes away from the MGM Grand Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. Ozzie’s barn is next to the gift shop and cages full of the famous MGM lions.

Ozzie gives free painting demonstrations at set times throughout the day.

Ozzie’s paintings can be purchased in the gift shop. Prices range from $5 for a keychain to $60 for a 9×12 painting. Each painting is an original.

Guests can also pet and feed Ozzie for a fee ($10 cash, or $20 credit card).

The ranch also offers a custom painting experience with Ozzie for $100. During the Ozzie art experience, guests create an original 8×10 artwork with Ozzie.

Steps to the Art Experience with Ozzie:

1. The trainer provides an overview of the experience.

2. You choose 3 colors of nontoxic paint from a selection of 20 to 30 paint colors. The trainer places each color into a shallow dish.

3. You then choose a brush for Ozzie to paint with and select which color gets painted first. The trainer places paint on the paint brush and hands you the paintbrush to give to Ozzie.

4. Ozzie paints the 8×10 canvas which is held by another trainer.

5. When Ozzie is done painting, he gives the brush back to the trainer.

6. The trainer then gives you treats to feed Ozzie while the brushstrokes dry.

7. You then inspect the canvas to see if you want Ozzie to continue painting with with your first color or if you want him to start painting with the next color. Steps 1-7 continue until you are happy with your painting.

When Ozzie has finished painting your canvas, a trainer uses a clear sealant to protect the artwork. You then take pictures with Ozzie and your finished artwork. [This is a picture of Ozzie and my finished painting]
