Axe Monkeys is a 23 lane indoor axe throwing range in  Las Vegas. It is located 20 minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip in a large warehouse with lots of free parking.

Adults pay $25 for 1 hour and $40 for 2 hours of range time. There are discounted rates for children, students, heros, locals, and seniors. There are also discounted rates through sites like Groupon and Tix4Tonight (I purchased 1 hour of axe throwing online for $13.75 from Tix4Tonight). In addition, Axe Monkey occasionally posts special rates and special events on their social media sites. 

The check-in area has a snack bar and  a case full of specialty weapons (ex.knives, throwing stars, and several types of axes) which can be purchased or rented for an additional fee. You can also buy a smash box with a prize inside for $5. The boxes are hung on the target and smashed with your axe. There are many types of  prizes inside such as free snacks, weapon upgrades, or a free range admission. Other add-ons include custom targets and shoe rentals.

A chain link fence separates the throwing area from the check-in area. To enter the throwing area, each visitor must have closed toe shoes, sign a waiver, and be unimpaired by drugs or alcohol.  The trainer explains a list of safety rules and then leads you to your lane.

Each lane has  2 wooden targets and a stand with 4 axes.

The Axe monkey trainer gives you a mini-lesson on throwing axes overhand, underhand, and two-handed. My trainer explained each technique, demonstrated the technique, watched as I threw the axe, and then gave me feedback on how I could improve my throw. My trainer then gave me time to practice on my own but he checked on me multiple times during my 1 hour session.

When you throw your first bullseye you ring a brass bell and everyone yells Onnea (which is Finnish for congratulations).

After throwing, I destroyed a printer in Axe Monkey’s rage room.

Final Tip: Axe Monkey hosts an axe throwing league and several theme nights including Metal Mondays,Disco Wednesdays, and Flannel Fridays.
